The Interview
PONY RYDER: Was modeling something you always wanted to do or was it suggested to you by others?DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: When I went to regular school I was suggested by my teacher that I should become a model, but I did not think about it.

PONY RYDER: Did you expected to win Elite’s model look contest?DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: I did not expect to win, instead I looked at it as an opportunity to travel and meet interesting people. And of course get experience from a totally different world.

PONY RYDER: How do you balance schoolwork and modeling?
DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: It is quit hard to be in school and at the same time know that the fashion world is out there, and maybe isn’t waiting for you. So you have to really prioritize, which is difficult, because I really enjoy working. The right time to focus on your modeling career is when you have the strength and are motivated to work hard for it, because I think it’s important to be satisfied with the fashion world, to really do a good job.

PONY RYDER: Was this your first international season? Which show do you think was your „big break“?DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: Yes, it was my first international season and I enjoyed it a lot, I think my break through show was the CK, and Marc Jacobs, because it was the first fashion week in NYC and then it went really good in London, Milan and Paris. Because I had a good start.
PONY RYDER: Tell us something about the instructions you get for the big shows. How detailed are the descriptions of the walk you have to do, and poses you have to do for the photographers?
DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: They tell what kind of walk they want, if the clients want a strong walk, strict walk, sexy, or slow, or fast, more romantic or harder. And then you see the collection and then it’s up to you to express the feeling in your body and face.
The instructions you get in front of the camera also depend on which clients you work with, but usually you get a description of what you are supposed to express, and the ground position that you’re gonna work around.

PONY RYDER: Did you got nervous walking for Chanel? Did you see and celebrities on that show while walking? Do you have time to scan the guests while you’re on the catwalk?DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: I was kind of nervous before the show because I had pain in my foot, and the runway was so long, but I’m always excited. When I’m on the runway I’m so focused on what I’m supposed to do, I’m in another world, like a character, and I try to express the feeling of the collection. So I have no time to scan the guests.

PONY RYDER: At which show did you have most fun backstage? Did you make new friends there, or do you just hang out with the girls you already know?DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: You meet almost the same girls at the shows so you get to know them well in the end, but I mostly hanged out Hanna R who is also from Sweden, we have the same mother agency, Elite Stockholm, and everybody who talks to us says that we look like sisters.

PONY RYDER: Were Prada shoes comfortable this last fashion week? How do you work the shoes and outfits that are uncomfortable?
DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: The Prada shoes were really high but comfortable. If it´s unconfortable shoes, and if they are hard to walk in I try to prepare myself psychical and support myself, so that I can manage it.

Model Style
PONY RYDER: Is it true that you like to make your own clothes?
DOROTHEA BARTH JORGENSEN: Yes! I enjoy to change character of old clothes that I’m tired of, and give them a new shape! It’s a process for me, and I experiment with the possibilities that the clothes already have. I feel that I have nothing to lose so I just go crazy. My style is like a collection of my life in one way, because the clothes I’m wearing have to mean something to me.
