JENNA KARRENBELT: the interview

JENNA KARRENBELT INTERVIEW

There are many facts about this beautiful young Dutch that you will find very interesting. She was scouted on-line just 7 months ago, and she already has an Elle girl cover in her portfolio. If that doesn’t say to you – this girl is going to make it – then just take a glimpse at her actor-like gorgeous face and you will know it – this is definitely a girl to look out for! Thanks to her outgoing personality and friendliness, it’s no surprise that you can often see her with some of her friends, new topmodels like Dioni Tabbers and Sabrina Djuric. As soon as she puts her efforts 100% into modeling, with assets she has, there is no limit for talent like hers.

Jenna Karrenbelt is with Micha Models Amsterdam, Dominique Models Brussels, Stars Düsseldorf, Uno Barcelona, Select London and New York Model management.

PONY RYDER: When and how did u start modeling?

JENNA KARRENBELT: 7 months ago I was scouted on a web site called Hyves. I had a profile with some pictures. Micha Models saw me and invited me to come to the agency. And that’s how it all started.

PONY RYDER: Did you learn about the modeling business yourself, or did you have a lot of guidance from your mother agency and all the other agencies you work with?

JENNA KARRENBELT: All the things I know, I learned by myself. I practice different faces and poses in my mirror. Because when it’s in your head, you’ll never forget it.

PONY RYDER: Did other agencies approach you after you signed with the agencies you’re signed with now?
JENNA KARRENBELT: Yes, a couple of Dutch agencies approached me, but I’m with Micha, and I don’t think that there is a better agency. If models change agencies, they could have so many reasons.

PONY RYDER: Have you ever had to make a decision whether to skip a season because of

school or personal reasons and what was your decision?

JENNA KARRENBELT: Well, this is my final year. I can’t skip school a lot right now, I’ve already said no to some jobs because school is the most important thing right now. But when I’m done with the school, I want to model full time.

PONY RYDER: What is the hardest thing for you as a young/starting model?

JENNA KARRENBELT: The hardest thing for me is that people see me different then before, they think I’ve changed because of this, but I’m still the same crazy girl.

PONY RYDER: What is your biggest fear concerning modeling?

JENNA KARRENBELT: That I’ll get a big scar on my face, then I’m doomed.

PONY RYDER: You were on the cover of Elle girl magazine? How was that experience for you?

JENNA KARRENBELT: It was amazing. That was my first paid job ever and it became a cover, so that is something I’ll never forget.

PONY RYDER: How did you get that cover? What did the casting director want to see in a girl who will get the cover?

JENNA KARRENBELT: I didn’t do a casting. I got an option because they saw my pictures. Then I was invited to do a cover try. They took a lot of pictures and picked out one of them to be the cover.

PONY RYDER: Is there a difference between shooting an editorial and shooting a cover? What is the difference?

JENNA KARRENBELT: Yes, for me it’s a complete different thing. Most of times a cover is a bit serious, just a little smile and that’s it. Editorial is something you can put your soul in, your feelings and passion.

PONY RYDER: What is the most important thing on casting?

JENNA KARRENBELT: It’s really important to be yourself, and make them realize that you are an extraordinary person.

PONY RYDER: How do you dress for a casting? What is your make up and hair like when you are doing castings?

JENNA KARRENBELT: I always wear high heels, fashionable shorts and a tank top. It’s a basic outfit.

PONY RYDER: What do you personally think, are you more commercial, more editorial, catwalk, etc…?

JENNA KARRENBELT: I think I’m more an editorial girl, I really like the high fashion shoots. But commercial isn’t bad either.

PONY RYDER: Are you afraid of falling on the runway?

JENNA KARRENBELT: Sometimes, it depends on the heels that I am wearing. If they are the same height as the Vivienne Westwood’s that Naomi Campbell was wearing, then I would be very afraid of falling.

PONY RYDER: How do you prepare for a photoshoot?

JENNA KARRENBELT: I’m not gonna look for work of the photographer, but if I happen to see some of his work in a magazine I will look, of course. The moment that I arrive on set is the moment I meet the crew.

PONY RYDER: How do you pose, what’s your style?

JENNA KARRENBELT: It depends on the theme of the shoot, what the photographer wants and the possibilities of the clothing, because sometimes you wear things that are so tight that you almost can’t move. I pose a lot with different face expressions and with my hands.

PONY RYDER: Do you have an interesting anecdote from a photo shoot, or a casting, a show?JENNA KARRENBELT: It’s not really an anecdote, but the people I work with always give me nicknames, like: honey, darling, cupcake, sweetie pie, angel, chick, and the worst one, bogey…

PONY RYDER: What is your X factor?

JENNA KARRENEBELT: A lot of people say my eyes and lips.

PONY RYDER: How do you maintain your skin? What is your beauty routine?

JENNA KARRENBELT: In the morning I always wash my face with water and rose soap. Than I put on a good day cream. When I go to bed I clean my face with a lotion and I put on a night cream. Because of that I always have a soft skin.

PONY RYDER: What is the best beauty advice u know of?

JENNA KARRENBELT: When I go to bed, I always keep my window a little bit open so that there’s always fresh air in the bedroom. Fresh air is very good for your skin.

PONY RYDER: What facial products do you use?

JENNA KARRENBELT: All my products are from Nivea. I like it because it makes my skin very soft. But this is different for everyone, because everyone has a different skin type.

PONY RYDER: How do you take of your make up?

JENNA KARRENBELT: With Nivea make up remover and after that I clean my face with a lotion to keep my skin smooth.

PONY RYDER: Do you have a make up trick? What is inside your make up bag?

JENNA KARRENBELT: I don’t were a lot of make up. Only a bit of kohl and mascara to let my eyes shine. So this is what I’ve got in my make up bag: kohl and mascara to let my eyes shine, rosebud salve for my lips and black nail polish.

PONY RYDER: How do you stay in shape?

JENNA KARRENBELT: Well, that’s not easy. First, I have to work out 5 days a week: When I get out of bed I go on the home trainer for 15 minutes, then I go to school by bike, that’s 20 minutes, and I go to the gym 3 times a week. I also have to eat very healthy.

PONY RYDER: Do models eat?

JENNA KARRENBELT: Yeah! Well, I do, I eat healthy 6 days a week. And I have one so called Junk day, that’s the day that I can eat cookies, chocolate and ice cream. So when somebody asks me what my favorite day of the week is, I say “Junk day”!!!

PONY RYDER: What is your personal style?

JENNA KARRENBELT: It doesn’t really have a name. Most of it is vintage. I wear skirts, dresses, high heels, nine rings on my fingers and an English hat. You can give it a name for me!

PONY RYDER: You are tall, most of the models wear flats… you wear heels!!! Tell us more…

JENNA KARRENBELT: I love high heels!!! They look great with my outfits and they make me walk straight up.

PONY RYDER: Where did you find a style inspiration? Why hats???

JENNA KARRENBELT: From rock bands and people like Pete Dorethy, I like their kind of personal style. I think that my hat is a part of me, when you see my hat you think: “Jenna!!”

PONY RYDER: You are friends with Dioni Tabbers, how did the friendship begin?

JENNA KARRENBELT: We are with the same agency, so we got in touch. We are like twins, we like the same clothes, music and food. We call ourselves “The Odd Couple”. I love her, she’s an amazing friend.

PONY RYDER: Are models in the same boutique agency competitive as they are in network agencies?
JENNA KARRENBELT: I don’t think so, I haven’t meet a model that’s very competitive. It’s just a job, nothing more, just a very nice job.

PONY RYDER: What did you learn about yourself trough your modeling career?
JENNA KARRENBELT: That I’m a girl with her own style and personality.

PONY RYDER: What would you advise to new models?
JENNA KARRENBELT: Enjoy every moment, it could be over every second!

PONY RYDER: Do You have any model friend you would like to see presented on Pony Ryder?JENNA KARRENBELT: My friend Sabrina Djuric. She is so beautiful, she has such a special face!
