STEPHANIE CARTA: NYC is now becoming my home, just moved in with my amazing boyfriend (Jay) into a one bedroom in Soho, and have used all the things we already own to start with in the apartment.

Jays forte is lighting and interiors so he has already worked his magic with some vintage O.C-white Lamps, and were keeping it quite simple and old school. Recycled vintage rugs on the floor, one couch from his old apartment, a rocking chair we just found on the street and his amazing Macintosh stereo with BMW speakers. Soon we’ll start the record collection…

New York being the eating out-street lifestyle it is, here are some of our favorite spots which we find it hard to via away from…

Jay has lived in the city almost 8 years, so he really knows what’s going on, and me coming fresh into the Big Apple with my own love of good food and health awareness…

This place is a regular for amazingly fresh sushimi (try sushimi salad and whitetail with fresh lemon juice) everything is good including the rolls, we like spicy tuna.. and lots of wasabi!

Jay is involved in the building and business of this new restaurant (after Freemans and Kingswood). We spend a lot of time here, and the food is great, especially eating out in the garden. It’s Italian Mediterranean and my faves on the menu are beet salad / calamari as appetizers, and the arctic char. Also great pasta, steaks and roast chicken.
We bring our friends in for big dinners and on the menu is even a cocktail named “the Carta”, after I had my first birthday dinner in New York there…Pomogranite margarita, you can’t go wrong!!!

Also not the cheapest but really by far the best quality Mexican food and drink combo we’ve found. Jay first took me here and it’s hard for us to not consider it always…
The grilled fish tacos and modest and fresh, great salads and well done versions of all the other Mexican standards… Including the fresh margaritas to match…

In the summer if you happen to go past a fruit stand with the fresh whole coconuts, they chop it for you and stick in a straw, a good walk by refreshment!
